Greetings from the Hollow

I am always on the lookout for art, movies, and any other media about Sleepy Hollow that I can find. Last year I heard about LEGEND: 200 Years of Sleepy Hollow, an art exhibit that was going to honor the 200th anniversary of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow (1820-2020). But then, COVID-19 happened, and everything got put on hold. I signed up for email alerts and hoped it would happen in 2021. I just got an email the other day announcing that it's planned for September-October 2021! More details here.

The email also included some pretty cool links - check out the Gallery of some legendary art. I follow quite a few of these artists on Instagram and Etsy, and I've even bought a few prints.

If it can't be October in Sleepy Hollow all year long, at least we can pretend it is!

"From the listless repose of the place, and the peculiar character of its inhabitants,
this sequestered glen has long been known by the name of Sleepy Hollow.
A drowsy, dreamy influence seems to hang over the land,
and to pervade the very atmosphere."

Here is another postcard of the interior of the Old Dutch Church in Sleepy Hollow.

I love this vintage 1970s Sleepy Hollow stamp. Here are some other great vintage postcards as well

I was browsing through the Historic Hudson Valley website and came across a great shadow puppet film available on youtube.

I'm pretty much a fan of anything Sleepy Hollow. I'm not sure what is behind that, exactly. Like every other kid in America, I looked forward to the Disney Halloween specials on TV (yeah, back in the 80s, we had to wait for our favorite Halloween cartoons that only played once a year).

Odds Bodkin, Gadzooks! I love the horses in this scene.

There is something about the Headless Horseman that is just intriguing. As I've been writing my Sleepy Hollow story (yes, I'm still working on it! Boo for having to work full time and boo on COVID that added a year's worth of overtime!). But one thing I've learned about studying The Legend, is that there is so much depth inside this delightful little tale. Themes of lost identity, revenge, superstition, miscommunication, loss, prejudice, etc. It's my favorite short story, and the Disney Cartoon pretty much cemented it into one of my favorite things of all time!

Just gather round, and I’ll elucidate, on what goes outside when it gets late.

  1. There is a place in Las Vegas called Ichabod's Lounge & Restaurant that is Headless Horseman themed.
